The Valley is home to countless restaurants and cafes, each having a unique, but delicious take on foods made to appeal to everyone's taste buds.

To start, let’s take a trip to a chinese restaurant in Skippack, Lui Garden. A hankering for good chinese food is common among families and friends gathering for any occasion. Whether it be a football game or just a lazy night on the couch, Lui garden is the ideal destination, with sit down meals and takeout available for countless events.

When walking into the restaurant, the customer is greeted with a tranquil and well decorated space, filled with authentic items to give a taste of the culture. The peaceful ambiance was strengthened by the quiet dining room and enclosed booths, providing a private area to enjoy a great meal with friends and family. We were then given a large menu with over 180 items ranging from meats to fish to vegetable dishes, even including a small diet menu. The menu listed all the dishes found at a typical chinese restaurant, but included a few unique items as well.

Unfortunately, not all aspects of this restaurant were up to par and the service of Lui Garden was the only downfall. Our waitress was not very hospitable, but did do her job very efficiently and got straight to the point. However, that was soon forgotten when the mouthwatering food arrived at our table. Each dish was steaming fresh and smelled divine, but avoided the potent odor some chinese foods have. All things considered, each course was exactly what was asked for, which was satisfying, but nothing phenomenal stood out about this restaurant.

The next destination is a blast from the past, traveling through time to the 1950’s in a small diner in Oaks.

Cheeburger Cheeburger is the perfect location for those craving a classic American meal from the booming years, filled with popular icons and great food.

When entering, the decorative walls of the restaurant were the first thing to catch our eyes. The decor takes inspiration from 1950’s diners with trinkets, posters, and images of countless pop culture references. The diner has many features that add some fun to the experience including, activity trivia cards on famous icons and various other elements from that time. The overall environment is made to be fun and laid back for hanging out with friends or family. The diner is comfortable and casual, attracting a range of people from all ages, even a great place for the average high schooler.

The restaurant also provides a simple menu made to not intimidate the customer, but still allow for a variety of flavors. Chee Chee Burger is obviously best known for their hamburgers and fried sides, but also includes salads and a couple sandwiches. Although the menus is small, customers are not limited, and the room for customization is enormous. Each burger is custom made from a selection of buns, meat, toppings, and sauce. However, the only lacking feature of this destination is the slow service. For the simplicity of the food, we expect it to be prepared and served in a shorter amount of time. Besides that one issue, this diner is truly a fun and comfortable spot for those looking for a simple, yet delicious meal.

Our last destination is over in Trappe, with a very different restaurant aimed towards an older crowd, but still available to the high school student looking for a good meal.

Although the Trappe Tavern is both a bar and restaurant, it is still welcoming and pleasing to a younger crowd. This time of year, the tavern is decorated for the holiday festivities, creating a very warm and inviting atmosphere. The tavern is split into three separate rooms, the bar (main) room, the second floor restaurant, and the outdoor deck. When walking into the tavern, the bar room is what greeted us first, with lively crowds and food on all sides. We sat in the 2nd floor restaurant area, separate from the loud noise and chatting in the bar. In fact, we were pleasantly surprised by the decorative walls, filled with TV’s, merchandise from sports teams, and local school spirit.

Most significant though, was the kind and incredibly welcoming servers. Shoutout to our waitress Jess, who made this experience the best one possible. Once sat, we were given an average size menu of sandwiches, burgers, and hoagies, paired with a separate daily specials menu. The food came out fairly quickly and service was spectacular from wait times to hospitality. The food was satisfying and exactly what you asked for, but had no outstanding taste or unique dish. Overall, the Trappe Tavern was a pleasant surprise with great service and satisfying food. Wise words from a fellow foodie, “this place is your local jawn”.

In short, these restaurants are destinations close to the people and towns in the Valley, all welcoming the high school crowd for a great time enjoying wonderful food.
