Getting back into Reading

Nearly every Sunday my family and I go to Barnes and Nobles to explore the many shelves of books and buy certain ones that catch our interest. I have always loved these trips because the bookstore is a place where you can see all of the different places you can travel to through a book. My dad has always encouraged me to get a book each time we go, which I find as a great gift from him because books are something that I truly enjoy. So every week I select a book or books that I find interesting or just something that would be pleasant to read.
As of recently, when I pass by the bookshelf in my room, I find this huge pile of unread books. Initially, I didn't think much about it, but later became sort of dismal at the thought of all these books I chose, but never read. Over the years I have developed a passion for reading, but find myself doing other mindless tasks when I could have delved into a book. Lately it seems that my motivation to read has declined greatly, resulting in the monstrous pile of books in my room I have yet to read. Currently, I’m in need of something to give me interest to read again, and I think it may have finally come.
In Gifted Honors English (GHEnglish) we have a ritual on Mondays where we read an independent reading book for about 20 minutes. I personally love this time and truly believe that it is important, especially for someone who doesn't read much outside of school. This reading time can honestly help someone find a passion for a certain book or come to a realization like, "Oh, I forgot this book was good." or, "Maybe I should read something else." These short sessions of independent reading can be such a great kick starter for finding a motivation or enthusiasm to read again.
