Book: Red Queen

Author: Victoria Aveyard

Genre: Fiction, adventure, fantasy, romance

Rating (Out of 10): 6

Red Queen takes place in a society where people are ranked based on their blood color; red blooded are the poor and silver are the high class. People with silver blood have certain supernatural abilities that make them seem god like. A red named Mare Barrow finds herself working in the palace surrounded by the people she hates most, silvers. Little does she know, Mare possesses a deadly power of her own that must be kept secret. The palace decides to hide Mare by declaring her a long lost silver that is to be engaged to the prince. Mare works secretly with a resistance group trying to overthrow the silver regimen with the help of some familiar faces from her hometown. Mare has taken a chance with befriending certain people, betraying others, and gambling with her own heart.

Pro: This book is filled with lots of action and moves fairly quickly. There are also many moments of romance and betrayal tied together.

Con: Although the book was a good read, it was too similar and predictable in reference to many other young adult dystopian themed books.

Overall, I would recommend this book to a person who really liked the whole dystopian society with romance genre. Even though I didn’t really like the book I’m sure there are many people that would because of the interesting plot and original characters.
